Thank you Jacky. The witnesses on the certificate are William Thomas Davey and Maud Sayer. |

I've looked again at the 1891 census (where the father is transcribed as Clarence) and the image actually looks more like Elkanah. |

Ohh ...I think that is good news for Pauline. I'd bet on this being the correct birth. |

Pauline do you have the marriage certificate for Ethel Mayall and George Henry Bickerdike as this may give the fathers names. |

Snap! Whilst awaiting any responses, I did another search for Cicely Mayall and Cicely Hulton Mayall popped up. I have decided to get this certificate and see what it says. Thanks TootyFruity. |

Thanks but I don't think his name is Clarence. I have looked again at the marriage certificate. The Al.. at the start is the same as the Al.. in Altrincham and there is a large K in the middle which is similar to the large K in the middle of Bickerdike. |

My grandfather Leslie Cross (1900-1955) married Cicely Mayall Bickerdike on 3 October 1925. Her parents were George Henry Bickerdike (1858-1955) and Ethel Mayall (c1882 - ) I could not find a birth certificate for Cicely Bickerdike even though it is known that her birthday was 29 September and it is believed that she was born in 1903 in Rochdale. |
