Re. Neville Poole, there is a considerable amount of source information including the 1919 Poole Pedigree of Gloucestershire and Wiltshire and the Bishop's transcripts of Rodmarton. These documents are attached on the Ancestry tree, amongst several others which tell the story of the Pooles fortunes, etc. It is reasonable to conclude that there is a link between the early Neville Poole and the later Neville Poole of Culkerton found in the Bishop's transcripts of Rodmarton.
Regarding the earliest Neville Poole c1592-1661 there is a clear link to the Plantagenets through Griselda/Grisel Neville who married Sir Henry Poole of Oaksey,Wilts and Kemble, Glos, father Edward Poole of both Gloucestershire and Wiltshire.
Source from researcher - Email from John Taplin 13 Jan 2007 re. Poole ONDB Biographies, etc.
The ODNB does not hold any relevant entry, but the History of
Parliament (History of Parliament: the House of Commons 1558-1603
edited by P.W.Hasler published in 3 Volumes by HMSO 25 February
1982) came up trumps. I was surprised to find an entry for Sir Henry
Poole because as far as I was aware from the Oxford alumni entry,
he was not an MP until 1604 i.e. after the dates covered by Hasler.
The History of Parliament is an ongoing project and the years from
1604-29 are not due to be published for 3 or 4 years. But there he
was, because he had been MP for Cirencester in 1597.
The entry is headed....
POOLE, Henry (1564-1632) of Kemble, Glos. and Oaksey, Wilts.
It gives the dates of his election to Parliament and the following detail
of his ancestry....
b. 1564, 1st s. of Edward Poole of Cirencester, Glos. and Oaksey,
Wilts. educ. Trinity Coll. Oxf. 1580 m. (1) Griselda, da. of Edward
Neville, 7th Lord Abergavenny of Newton St. Loe, Som., 2s, 1da.; (2)
c. 1614 Anne Barnarde, wid. of Sir James Harrington of Ridlington,
Rutland. suc. fa. 1577. Kntd. 1603. J.p Wilts. from c.1590, q. by 1601,
sheriff 1619-20.

Mark, there are quite a number of trees with Edward in, some very well researched.

Ancestry offers a 14 day free trial. Why not do that, which should be enough time to gather the information you need?

But, be aware that just because several trees have the same information, it doesn't mean it's right. Some people copy like mad on there, and tend to make other people's ancestors fit their own.

Katie Report 25 Oct 2010 22:30

The ones with Neville Poole in them have a son Edward b1773 who married Mary Butler, does this tally with what you have found?

Those trees on ancestry seem to all have a Neville Poole born ca 1736 Sapperton, Goucestershire, with father Neville Pool, mother uknown

I How does Sapperton it with your stated Culkerton?

The ONE tree that implies that it might go back to the Plantagenets has all of ONE source showing. It also says Neville was born in Wiltshire!

I do believe that the tree might well not be accurate!!!

Mark Report 25 Oct 2010 22:17

Hi,
I wonder if anyone can tell my anything about Neville Poole and his ancestors or where I can find infornation about him?
I believe I have traced my mother's side of tree back to Edward Poole born around 1776 in Gloucestershire.
I haven't got a subscription to ancestry but I have glimpsed on some public trees Neville being list as his father. Some state can trace the family back to the plantagnets. Can anyone help?

Cheers
Mark
