Find Ancestors

I really can not find Edward Cutts/Greenfield on 1881 anywhere.
His birth cert for the details really are a must I think.
Its just that this one stays born c1882 and Sheffield on all the others that makes me worry about it.
Although there is no birth for an Edward Greenfield or Cutts in Sheffield for the right time that I can find..

I really would like to know how you are sure he was born that year and in Suffolk though as it is some way from Sheffield.

He married Florence Belk in April 1901 and his father was named as Philip Greenfield occupation Railway Spring Fitter.In 1911 Census his name is stated as Edward Cutts adopted son of Caroline Greenfield,on his Death Certificate his name is stated as Edward C Greenfield and he is the husband of Florence C Greenfield.

Do you have this birth cert if this is him?
Who does it say his mother and father is on it please?
And what address was he born at?

I have a copy of his marriage certificate that states his father as Philip Greenfield, and an elderly aunt told me when I got his death certificate that states his name as Edward C Greenfield that he was adopted.

That's when it starts to get odd!!

Do you have his birth cert for his parents names?

Oh well.
You know who he married etc ,but we dont,so we cant try and find them on 1911 if they married before that census ,so therefore unable to try and trace him back with any certainty..

I do know who he married and when, I also know what name he was married under and his fathers name and his occupation.

I was brought up as Cutts,when I went to get a Death Certificate for my Grandad it stated his name as Edward C Greenfield,I spoke to an elderly aunt who said that my eldest aunt was registered as Greenfield by Grandma Greenfield and the rest of the family were all registered as Cutts by my Grand Parents.

Following the Cutts I found in 1901 they have an Edward with them in 1881 but he was born c 1874

How do you know he is that one on 1901 census and how do you know he was "adopted" by them please?

That was quick unfortunately he was adopted by a Philip & Caroline Greenfield (dont know when), but on 1901 census he was listed as Edward Greenfield.

He wouldn't have been formally adopted in that era. How did you manage to get from Cutts to Greenfield?
