I'll ask my friend and get back to you. The letters were/are really quite personal so it's difficult really...do we let sleeping dogs lie or pass them on? Tricky one, but my friend feels she need to give them to the family.

I have found loads of 'Tubby ' marriages etc and info on the family going further back in time but nothing certain coming forward for relatives.

Are there any addresses or details of relatives etc in those letters?

I can't see any children for them at the moment.

Best we try to follow any siblings to see if we can make a family connection.

Herbert Tubby's Pension records are on Ancestry but nothing useful to you in them.

Another thought - why not find out what the local newspaper is for that area and contact them?

They may do a little human interest piece that descendants (or people who know them) might see.
