Hi,
Hope someone can help with this.
I now am the proud owner of Winifred Kelly/Leonard Giles marriage cert.
They were married at St. Wilfreds RC Church Hull, 13.02.1916. Winifreds father was named as John Kelly and his occupation states admiral of fishing fleet.
Interestingly one of the witnesses is Rose Ann Robinson, see above for more info.
So far i know,
Father John Kelly - Admiral of Fishing Fleet Daught Winifred Kelly born 1890, Married 1916 (on hull census 1911) Daught Rose Ann Robinson born 1886 (on hull census 1901 & 1911) Poss Bro John Kelly born C1886 (on Hull censu 1901 with Rose & Benjamin Robinson. Listed as visitor.
Does anyone have any tips as to where i go from here, i still have no confirmation these people were infact Irish othr then what the family say.
Many thanks to anyone who may be able to help me.
Shel xx

Ann, I thought that census you posted looked quite hopeful! I think that Michelle needs to buy Winifred's marriage certificate to get her father's name and occupation - otherwise any research is based on speculation rather than facts.
Michelle, please remember that often word of mouth "facts" really need to be proved. My own Grandmother always gave the impression that she was born in Ireland when in fact she was born in Scotland of Irish parents who then returned to Ireland. Please come back to your thread when you have the marriage certificate and let us know if Ann's census is correct.

Winifred Kelly & Rose Kelly were born in Ireland (Winifred 1890) I know Winifred Kelly married Leonard Giles in Hull in 1916 at Hull Register Office. But anything inbetween these dates is a complete mystery. I think i need to track when and how they came to be in Hull. Would anyone know how to start looking at Irish people who travelled over here?

Hello Michelle,
On the original it atually states Head born Hull then ditto for the rest. This practice was not unusual, many people for whatever reasons stated the wrong place of birth. I think maybe being Irish for some of their neighbours was a problem............you know the usual thing.......taking our jobs etc.........I can send you the image if you click on my name and let me have your email

I cant believe I have missed this. It states she was born in Hull, I clicked on image to check and it only actually states head of household for the properties. It also says her relationship to head was sister, I suspose this could also be slightly wrong and she was his sister in law.
What is interesting is that all my family come from the area of this adress.
Would you know how I would be able to access any records where it states each person living there. I can see it on the computerised sheet that you have copied above but the handwritten census is just head of household?
Many Thanks,
xx

Hi please someone help me!!!! My Great Grandmother Winifred Kelly was born in Ireland, around 1890, she was raised in some sort of orphanage by nuns. I dont have a great deal of info on her, I know she married my Great Grandfather Leonard Giles in 1916 in Hull, and she came across with a sibling Rose Kelly (who was also raised in the orphanage). I have no idea how old Rose was, if there where any other siblings, where abouts in Ireland they came from or when they came to England. Im constantly hitting a brick wall.
I would greatly appreciate any help or advice regarding where to look.
Many Thanks,
Shel xx
