Hi,

I am looking for information on my great grandparents who from the 1911 census had a house and shop. I want to find out what kind of shop it was. 157 Whitefield Rd, Everton, Liverpool, L6. I would be grateful for any help thank you and happy new year.

you could try www.historicaldirectories.org

in the 1900 Gore's Directory of Liverpool & Birkenhead number 157 was John Styles Fishmonger

the 1911 directory doesn't seem to be online, however someone on here might have access or be willing to visit Liverpool archives or you could buy a copy, they are on CDrom and are sometimes available on ebay

it says shop and house on the enumerators list, maybe they were living in a flat above a shop.

looking at googlemaps it seems the area has been redeveloped

here's the address in 1901 census it would seem that it was owned by a fishmonger and poulterer, this family is in Walton, West Derby Merseyside in 1911

Address: 157, Whitefield Road, Everton

Chances are it was a "corner shop" in the front room of the house. There were loads of these scattered all over Liverpool and districts right up until the 1960's. Probably in many other towns and citys as well.

Edit: Should have read the whole thread. Sorry. xx
