Do read the guidance offered when you first posted, Avryll.

"Henry and Susan had several children" -- yes ... and ... their names and dates of birth were? You know. We don't. Should we have to hunt up that info first, and then try to track them down??

>> Give as much detail as possible when explaining who you are trying to find. If known, try putting the name, place of birth and year of birth in the subject line of your thread.

>> After posting a question, please stay on the boards for a while as replies are very quick.

If you are reading only the Moffitt "surname board", click on "remove this filter" on the left side and you will see the complete Trying to Find baord where everyone else here is seeing your thread -- no Moffitts, but all the other members who read the boards and offer help. Browsing a few threads, as well as reading the instructions and returning to your thread, would help.

None of the other three children in the 1911 census household seems to have married or died in England/Wales.

One assumes it is living family members of Joshua's siblings you are looking for.

Are they known to you to have left the UK?

MOFFITT Joshua 1908 M 1913 Liverpool New Zealand Lyttelton

Since Joshua emigrated to New Zealand when he was 5 years old, I'll bet all the rest of them did too.

So looking for them in UK records was sure a waste of time!

MOFFITT Hy F 1874 M 1913 Liverpool New Zealand Lyttelton

You don't seem to have a tree at this site with any of these names in it. That is the best way to find actually related people -- they search for names, they find you.

If you search trees for surname Moffitt, born 1935 +/- 10 years in New Zealand (just for a starting point), there are 9 matches in almost as many people's trees. It could be worth sending those people messages to see whether any of those births were to a brother of Joshua Moffitt.

Lynne -- you can correct anything you like at Ancestry. ;)

It has a category for "incorrect original". I just cite the marriage info, when I correct one like that. (I always add that I am not related, noticed the error when searching for someone else, e.g.) It would likely be a contemporary mistranscription from the household schedule.

(Edit -- I figured from the format that you weren't using Ancestry, Lynne, wasn't meaning to be condescending or such!)

Avryll, if you'd like the correction made at Ancestry and you don't subscribe there, I'll volunteer -- if you want, send me your email address by private message (click on my name) and I will include it in the correction notes, so that anyone who searches for the couple in the 1901 census in future will find them, and will be able to contact you. (I recommend a *permanent anonymous* email address like at gmail for this purpose.)

I'm on Canuckistanian time and I'm awake when youre asleep, so that will be tomorrow ... or the next day ...

JaneyCanuck,

I use FMP and I have found in the past that they wont change anything from what it looks like on the census.

I once tried to get a 1 year old changed from married to single but they wouldn't do it!

I will give it a try for Moffill to Moffitt and see what happens.

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 5 Jan 2011 03:47

I know, I've heard that about FMP -- it seems to be a matter of admitting their mistakes, or not. ;)

It's one reason I prefer Ancestry -- you can write all over it. And doing that (adding info that was different from the image -- a spelling variant, a birth surname) has found me cousins, who found me through my scribblings!

Oh, you're *there*! And I imagine some posters here, in other parts of the southern hemisphere, are surrounded by water as far as the eye can see, too. Up here in the northern part on this western side of the Atlantic, we barely have any snow. Had an earthquake last summer, but although it scared me half to death when it sounded like my house was caving in, no harm was done.

You go ahead and concentrate on staying upright ... upside down though you are ... ;)
