Barbara Report 21 Jan 2011 01:36

Hi,
Was wondering if anyone can help me please.
I am looking for the death of Thomas Joseph James born 1808 at St Pancras, London. He was a bricklayer.
He doesn't appear in the census records after 1861, but I know that some of the 1871 records in Regent Street area, Mile End are missing and that is possibly where he may have lived, if still alive in 1871. Other family are also missing from 1871 and I think it is possible they were all living in that area. They show up in later census records, but not Thomas.
His widow was living at West Hackney in 1881 and remarried in 1884.
I know that this following record in Sep 1879 is not my ancestor:
James Thomas 70 Hackney 1b 250
I would appreciate any help,
Regards,
Barbara

Thanks ladies!
Susan- that is the right baptism record for him and the death record is his son from 2nd marriage. He lived only a few hours. The 1851 census is him too. His 1st wife died in 1848. He remarried in 1852.
Marion- That is him in 1861 census and Mary A was only 32.
It is very possible the death at Mile End in 1864 is him but am trying to narrow it down before I purchase the certificate, because as you are all aware, it can become a rather expensive exercise.
Just wish the 1871 census records weren't damaged so I could determine if he was alive in 1871.

Thank you very much for your help, it is much appreciated,
Cheers,
Barbara

Hi again,
I am now trying to locate the son of Thomas Joseph James (1808).
He is also a Thomas Joseph James born Dec 1834 at St Pancras. He is missing from 1861 and 1871 census. I have found him in 1841/51/81/91 and he died 1895 in Essex.
Below is him in 1851 with his father and brother:

1851 England Census
about Thomas James
Name: Thomas James
Age: 43
Estimated birth year: abt 1808
Relation: Head
Gender: M (Male)
Where born: St Pancras, Middlesex, England

Civil Parish: Limehouse
County/Island: Middlesex
Country: England

Street address:

Occupation: Bricklayer

Condition as to marriage:

John Willm James 14

Thomas 1834 is also a bricklayer and married Clarinda (there are often varying spellings for her name) Conford in 1856.
So in 1861 we should be able to find Thomas, Clarinda and daughter Clarinda and in 1871 there should be Thomas, Clarinda, and children Clarinda and Thomas and I am not sure what other children there may be.
The addresses given on the christening records between 1858-1879 are all in the Mile End region.

I just haven't had any success in finding them in those 2 census records.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Barbara

Update!
Thanks to all for your help. I narrowed it down the best I could and took the plunge and ordered a death certificate for him and Bingo! it was the right one.
He died 16 Jan 1864 at Mile End Workhouse from 'disease of the brain'.
Once again, thank you
Barbara :-)
