Thankyou Jax
It does look like her.
So much hinges on the marrige cert, shame we can't look them up!

This looks like it could be her but you really need the marriage cert to find out who her father was

Sorry, for misleading you.
What I meant was it is good to have a site with a *. Unfortunately, Genes does not have it

jax

jax Report 15 Feb 2011 05:32

I took that census from find my past and I have added a correction before and they did'nt do anything

I dont know how Genes census works with the wild card I know it is not quite as flexable as FMP I put in hil* as the surname and added dorset as the county and only came up with two results but I did use the least common name Ernest, rather than william or mary

But as I said not sure about this site maybe give it a try and see

Hi Lynne, I didn't know about the *, thankyou.

I have looked at the 1911 census under Hiller, and it is spelt correctly (Hillier) on the original. I don't know whether Genes Reunited can correct this?

Lynski Report 15 Feb 2011 04:51

It is good to have a site with a census search where you can use the * so that you can search for things like Hil*er - that way you get all the variations.

I have just noticed that the surname Hillier has been entered as Hiller, but all the details are correct, maybe this is why I couldn't find it . I guess this happens sometime.

I can't find William Alfred Hillier in the 1911 census. His wife was Mary Jane (nee Thompson) There were three children Albert T b.1900, Ernest William b. 1902 and Kathleen M b. 1910. They lived in Dorset.
I would appreciate any help in this regard. He was my grandfather.

Adding to this thread I would like to find out more about Mary Jane Thompson's (b 1876 Swindon, Wiltshire) parents. She married William Alfred Hillier June 1899 Malmesbury.
