Linda, there's a lot here for you to take in and digest.

I note you said Hannah was possibly William snr's second wife?

To confirm that I'd order a copy of his marriage certificate to Hannah. It would confirm if he was a bachelor or widower. Here's the reference again:

Marriages Sep 1878 (>99%)
Beaumont William Prestwich 8d 504
SCHOFIELD Hannah Prestwich 8d 504

You can order on-line from GRO - http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/. Cost is £9.25

MarieCeleste. Many thanks for your help and the information you have provided. I did not realise that there was a 'Community' out there who have been unbelievably kind and helpful.

I only sent a post as an enquiry to see if there may have been any decendants from that family line. The response had been fantastic.

I can see that if I had widened my search to 1893 then I may have had a little more success. I thought that the d.o.b. in my g.father's discharge book would have been accurate. Lesson number 1 learnt! I now have a LOT more information than I started out with this evening. Tomorrow is another day, and I shall look forward to seeing what else I am able to discover about my paternal g.father's family.

Thanks again Linda

Jonesey. I am very grateful for the information you have sourced and provided for me. If I had widened my search for the d.o.b to 1893, then I may have had a little more success. When I think of the hours spent trying to find what I hoped was accurate information, and the time kindly spent by the 'Community' offering their help, I have a lot to learn!

I look forward to moving on with what is now accurate information and once again thank you for your help.
