So sorry not to get back to you, Ginny and Chris, especially when you are trying so hard to help me. I've never sent for a will yet, but I think now is the time to try. I really appreciate your help. (P S I've tried contacting Sheringham Museum, but no reply)

Lol Ginny, I'm really thinking so too! :-))

I would definitely be contacting the Norfolk R. O. and getting that Will...
(seems you can get it online if you contact them on website) at least you would know then, one way or the other where he fitted in, and you might find out some other 'goodies' too!.

Keep us posted :-)

Chris :)

Thanks both of you for having some faith in me but.......that 1849 death for Robert with Susan Bishop as the informant, surely has to be the husband of Ann Sunman.....

.......he just liked shifting from job to job, or more likely he told porkies!

Chris Ho :) Report 23 Feb 2011 09:56

(I can't get this other Robert sorted!, lol)...

Thought he died 1849, but, no, 1867 Cambs. Wisbech. Here he is below, I take it he is Robert and Ann's son?... (can see him 1851 Sheringham & 1861 Wisbech)

So, who or where was the Robert Sunman who died and left a Will 1849, on the 1841 census?...

Have had a nosey on Ancestry Trees, the Robert above features quite well, but only a couple of Trees have Robert senior and Ann, they don't have a death date either...

Chris :)

(got that can't get me head round it, can't let it go feeling!, lol) :-))

Checks back...

Well, I think Ginny's theory sounds good :-)) and might be worth getting that death cert., I think anything is worth a try here!.

There are two Susan Bishops in Sheringham, one a daughter living with her pauper mother, and one married to a fisherman. The other Robert and his family are there too, he is down as a Carpenter (so must have turned shoemaker by 1849)

If you was able to visit, Norfolk Record Office is the place...or have a google and see what Sheringham have for local family history, they might have a lifeboat musem. Wonder if they are buried in Sheringham, have you got burials of any others in the family?...

It is a lovely part of the Norfolk coast, and sounds like Robert did a lot for the community :-)

Keep us informed...

Chris :)

(a fan of N. Norfolk coast!)

Hi Chris, I like your comment - 'Does seem strange' - exactly my feelings, Have you seen Ginny's reply where he might be called Seago? But it's strange both Ann in 1844 and Robert in 1849 have Susan Bishop as informant. It doen't say if she's a relation, so that a new line of enquiry. many thanks for you time and help

Kevin

Kevin Report 22 Feb 2011 22:22

Sorry not to get sttraight back to you, but I was called away from my computer .You've certainly hit the nail on the head when you said 'there's something not right' I have Ann's certificate and the informant was Susan Bishop, the same informant as (on what I thought was the wrong )Robert death certificate in 1849. It was the shoemaker occupation that threw me. How can a man in his 60's stop being a carpenter and become a shoemaker? Especially now you have found him as a wheelwright in 1850. That would tie in with the death for Robert Seago (how did Sunman translate as Seago??!! perhaps Innkeeper became shoemaker!!!)Wonderful sleuthing, thanks

Gee

Gee Report 22 Feb 2011 22:07

And this seems to be the last we see of Robert in the directories

Name: Robert Sunman WHEELWRIGHT
Residence: 1850 - Norfolk, Suffolk, England

This is held at Norfolk Record Office. (would this be the shoemaker?)

Google brings up articles on him and the lifeboat, I checked newspapers but nothing coming up, (would probably be in Norfolk RO) can't see anything on National Archives coming up either.

Does seem strange...

Now theres something not quite right about this chap.

I cant see him around anywhere else ie censuses and when Ive gone to look at the actual register I cant spot him on there either?

The 1851 was taken on 31st March so if this man died on the 30th March he wouldnt have been around for the census but would have made this quarters death

Have you got Ann Sunmans death certificate from 1844...I was wondering who the informant was?

There is a Robert Seago around Erpingham?

Edit

This looks like his death? The only Robert Seago death from 1841 -1881

Please can anyone help me find the death of Robert Sunman, he was a carpenter, wheelwright, fishmonger and Licensee in Sheringham (1808 - 1846). I sent for a certificate for 1849- the Robert was the right age but was a shoemaker. I can't find the death for another Robert on freebmd or the Norfolk archives betwee 1846 and 1860's He was born about 1773 and married Ann Cooper in 1798 in Gresham Norfolk. Thanks
