No, but her husband was only 17.
More a matter of pregnancy than affordability !

Well it's not often i have came across it,as it would be hard to care for a family on a minors wage.

14 to be married gosh never realised that, can't imagine letting my kids get married at that age. That is good to know as I have been dismissive of information when the "groom" appeared to young.

Thank you to everyone.

Just a point ....
the above entries I posted are dates of Christenings not dates of birth

Yes, quite common to name another child the same name as one that died.
See also 2 Sarahs.

Quite feasible for Thomas born 1770 to marry aged 17.
Legal age was 14 for males.

in my family my Dad had a siter called Nancy who died as a baby - when the next little girl was born the children all said "We have another Nancy" so Nancy she was called - this was common practice

Sorry just seen your second response. This is where I am confused, so the family had two children by the name of Thomas and one died? Was this normal practice do you know then?
The names listed to fall in with those in the family through the generations part from Laura, so I would say the above is accurate thank you.

I am trying to find birth details together with parents and siblings details of the above. I have gained through the census two of John's children, Thomas born 1770 and William born 1776. John married a Betty Courties in June 1765.

Is anyone able to guide me in the right direction.. I have tried the Cornwall parish records but there are so many John's Martyn born in that area, I am stuck.
Thanks
