HI Madbull

Many, many thanks for all the info that you have found for me - a lot to absorb & all very interesting.....

Two days ago, I kew so little about Sarah & James Workman - who it apears were cousins ( Sarah was my great-grandmother - James had died prior to my gran, Ada Lily Workman being born - so dont know who my great grandfather is )

Now - I know quite a bit - albeit, I need to 'understand' properly, all the relationships here.........

But, once again - I thank you for your help - and Andy & Chrissa - without you all I would still be 'in the dark'

In England, after the Act of Uniformity 1662 a Nonconformist was an English subject belonging to a non-Christian religion or any non-Anglican church. A person who also advocated religious liberty may also be more narrowly considered as such. English Dissenters (such as Puritans and Presbyterians) who violated the Act of Uniformity 1559 may retrospectively be considered Nonconformists, typically by practising or advocating radical, sometimes separatist, dissent with respect to the Established Church.

Presbyterians, Congregationalists, Baptists, Quakers (founded in 1648), and those less organized were considered Nonconformists at the time of the 1662 Act of Uniformity. Later, as other groups formed, they were also considered Nonconformists. These included Methodists, Unitarians, and members of the Salvation Army.

The religious census of 1851 revealed that total Nonconformist attendance was very close to that of Anglicans.

The address for James & Mary & family in 1861 just says private which I think means private house. If it's any help the previous page has the "Talbot Arms" pub.

James is an ag lab born Nibley, Mary born Hawkesbury, children born Charfield.

Charles & Lucy's address in 1861 is the same, private.
Charles is an ag lab born Charfield, Lucy born Kingswood, children Charfield.

I had posted the address in 1851, Charfield Green.

Gillian Report 3 Mar 2011 12:34

Andy

You are Brill !

I have been really struggling to find Sarah & Joseph - who married in THornbury in 1884 . I had believed that they were related somehow and this is a definate possiblity and certainly - something new for me to research.

I had this info so far:
Sarah Ann Workman married a Joseph Workman in Thornbury 1884.
Joseph later dies in Thornbury June qtr 1897 aged 38yrs
They had several children.

In 1899 - Sarah Workman had a daughter - Ada Lily Workman ( who was my grandmother).

Then Sarah Ann Workman marries again -
Marriages Sep 1902 (>99%)
Beckerton William Thornbury 6a 537
Workman Sarah Ann Thornbury 6a 537
Eventually - they move to Pontypridd.

I know nothing about Sarah Ann Workman ( or indead Joseph Workman) - other than they were born in Charfield / Thornbury c 1860. So I am desperate to trace them and thire families etc.
