If big hugs were alowed on GR I would give you one. The names and years appear to tie in with dates of birth and the 1901 census info, especially as Ellen did have a sister called Florence. But the cherry on your investigative cake would be the marriage of Arthur Whiting to Ellen Sullivan. My Mum told me it was O'Sullivan but that was many moons ago and is an amazing coincidence if it isn't right.

I assumed he was too young because of Ellen's YOB - but as it seems to be later it really must be him with that distinctive occupation.

You may well be right. Certainly the name, with a spelling difference, occupation etc all tie in, but also my Grandmother did have a sister called Florence which is the other Whiting. Looks v promising.

Alas no not really. It was some time in the 60's, 64/65 ish. She died in hospital as far as I'm aware but I don't know which one, she lived in Chiswick W4 but i was too young to remember all the details. She's buried at Mortlake Cemetary but I don't know the date of the buriel.

The Ellen Amelia 1885 has father EDWARD not ARTHUR??

I've seen the 1885 Ellen Amelia but it doesn't match the age given on her 1919 marriage as 26 which puts her date of birth at 1892/3, and the Father's forename doesn't match the Arthur J Whiting on the marriage certificate.

My Grandmother, Ellen Amelia Whiting, according to her marriage certificate of 1919, is 26 years old at the time and so her year of birth is around 1892/3, she is the daughter of Arthur J Whiting, age unknown. This was her second marriage, her first in 1916 is matter of record, as is the birth of her son Bill Rogers in the same year, and the death of her first husband Henry Rogers the following year, 1917. All this takes place in England. Now the tricky bit. I cannot find any record in any census of an Ellen Amelia Whiting and an Arthur J Whiting in the same place at the same time in either the 1911 or 1901 census. I can't even find a birth record for an Ellen Amelia for 1892/3, although there is one for 1885. (Maybe someone told some porkies!!!)
So if they weren't here, do we have lists of immigrants for the early 1900's, not that I've heard that my Grandmother was, but who knows.
