For William Henry to be 1 in 1871 means he was born between April 2nd 1969 and April 2nd 1870, exactly when Williamina was born. |

Martin did have another thread earlier this year but that was looking for Annie Burgess's family. |

Hi Potty - I was going to try to match those births to census records but I just have a feeling that this is all a little familiar (bells were ringing when I found the Eliza on the census) but I can't find the older thread on this. I just remember looking up this name before - probably because it is not that common in Scotland. |

rootgatherer, on the 1871 Wm Henry is given as born Glasgow, not Boness, so he could be the one b 1871 in Blythswood. |

These are the births on Scotlandspeople between 1865 and 1885. Search was done by entering Shufflebot* so it would include Shufflebottom and Shufflebotham. Note that the only Bo'ness births do not include a William but then again the Bo'ness births are later so perhaps his parents moved to Bo'ness after his birth and he just assumed that he was born in the same place as his younger siblings. |

The birth safc found is on scotlandspeople - the registration will have George and Annie's date and place of marriage. |

Actually, Martin, Scotland does have a database of births, marriages and deaths, searchable on line and giving access to actual registers (not just indexes, like the English and Welsh ones). The registers also give far more information than the English and Welsh ones. |

There is a tree on Ancestry which has Anne born in Iden, Sussex and dying in Stoke-upon-Trent 1881. They too have no other details for her or William. |

I think you can rule out 1872 for his year of birth if he's on the 1871 census! |

I love the Scots don't get me wrong but I just wish they would have created a database of all births, marriages and deaths like England and Wales it would make researching your scottish ancestors easier by far. Same goes for Ireland. lol |

Hello I'm wonder if anyone can help me, I am trying to find a birth record for my great great grandfather William Henry Shufflebotham/Shufflebottom. He was born around 1870/1871/1872 in Bon'ess, Scotland but so far I have been unable to find a Birth Record for him mainly because I live in Wales and am having trouble searching for a scottish record. I have found him living with his parents George Martin Shufflebotham and Annie Maria Burgess in the 1871 Scotland Census however I have just learnt from a family member that these may have been his adoptive parents and that maybe he was adopted out of the Cameron of Lochiel family as he had all his life a piece of tartan in the ancient style of the camerons of lochiel clan. I have searched Ancestrty, Scotspeople, family search for a birth record for either William Henry Shufflebotham or Cameron but have found nothing. |
