I wanted to figure out what registration district Armely is in, to check for Page deaths at

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

but I can't find Thomas Page aged 3 in Armley in 1841 ...

Here we are, searching for Martha Wainman instead:

Name: Martha Wainman
Age: 50
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1791
Gender: Female
Where born: Yorkshire, England

Civil parish: Bramley Ward
Hundred: Leeds Borough
County/Island: Yorkshire

Martha Wainman 50
Elizabeth Page 25
James Page 4

Is "James" a mistranscription at Ancestry? ... Yes. (It's always a good idea to make corrections there and note your relationship, so people can find the record adn contact you.)

Thinking the son may have been named after the father ... there are no Thomas Page deaths 1837-1841 in Leeds reg dist.

There are only four male deaths in that period -- Joseph, James, John and William. Perhaps Thomas William had his father's name as his middle name? It might be worth getting that certificate to see whether it holds info that could confirm, e.g. if wife Elizabeth was the informant.

Deaths Mar 1841
PAGE William Leeds 23 304

They did have the bad manners to have their child mere months before registration began. ;)

And Mike was typing as I was searching -- coming at it from the other end, I was about to look for a marriage to match the death. ;)

Must say the 1881 census threw me .... Leeds, KENT ???

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 25 Mar 2011 00:22

Where is Eliza Page 1839 in 1841??

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 25 Mar 2011 00:28

I was thinking the same thing! -- born in Leeds, Yks, and coincidentally ended up in Leeds, Kent?? I thought it was one of Ancestry's stupidities, but it seems to be what the original is.

I know when my mum and I visited England, we got confused by Leeds Castle (in Kent) vs. Leeds. Leeds Castle is a sight we considered seeing but didn't have time for. Leeds (Yks) is where her wallet ended up after it was stolen on the train from London to Northamptonshire and emptied of contents. ;)

Speaking as a Lancastrian, I couldn't possibly comment !!!!!

Now that you mention it.... ..you got me thinking maybe that's the wrong Eliza Page .... but had another look and can't see any other possible.

So where is she in 1841 ?

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 25 Mar 2011 00:42

And 1851 ...

Maybe luckynamoire will return to the thread and let us know where Thomas William Page is in later censuses, to see whether that one in 1881 in Kent is him.

Yeah yeah. ;) I deleted the duplicate -- the problem must have been at my end, because Ancestry was timing out and GR was just churning and not posting ... so I clicked again. And again. Two of 'em took. ;) Apparently it's all the Netflix people watching movies on line and using up my bandwidth ...
