I think that I would buy a birth certificate first as that marriage seems just a wee bit too early given that Maria would only have been 16 and there doesn't seem to be any children for a few years.

If the person that has the McDonald / Dixon marriage on their tree doesn't have a birth certificate for one of the children it could all be guesswork. You may as well get a birth certificate then your tree will be accurate.

thanks, Debra I'm still confused- will have to resort to buying a few certificates -AGAIN!!! Chris

Yes he was a chimney sweep on the census records. By ' view the actual census', do you mean purchase a copy (will this tell me anything different to the on shown on ancestry site?)-sorry for ignorance have only been doing this about 2 months 1881 census clearly states Ireland Chris

RamblingRose Only info I have of marriage is from someone elses tree. They claim they were married J-M 1849 Worksop. The Worksop bit just might be correct as they lived on Norfolk street for many years ans Worksop did then have a registry office Chris

Christine

Christine Report 12 Apr 2011 20:36

Gordon, Sorry may have misled you as I made a mistake on first post putting his wife as sarah burgess - -its NOT- It is Maria. Have read on someone elss e tree that she was Maria Dixon and was marreid J-M 1849 in Worksop, but I have no proof and this is what I'm trying to clarify. Haven't read all your info yet as I spotted this so thought better let you be aware of my mistake first chris

Hi, Can any one help or give advice when your ancestors are found to come from Ireland? I am trying to trace James Macdonald 1818 -1886. ON 1851 census shows him born Oldd N, - England, - living Worksop ,Notts.
1861 census shows him born Manchester - living, Worksop.
1871 census shows him born Lancashire, Manchester -living Worksop.
1881 census shows him born Ireland, living Worksop.
He was married to maria burgess 1824 -1877
