Hi !!
I'm trying to find a family 'missing link'.
I'm looking for any details on Maurice Cope, born in Ilkeston in 1932. He married Frances M Webster (born 1933 in Shardlow) at Ilkeston.
I have only just discovered that Maurice existed and he is my Uncle on my Fathers side.
Can anyone help please? :D

Was his birth registered under Rotherham district?

Or Basford?

There are various possible children born at Belper.
Have you got his marriage certificate?

Frances M Cope appears to be living on her own, whilst from 2002 to 2007 on electoral register with Maurice. But this is only tentative.

You do know the other person who has Maurice in their tree at GR? (Asssuming Basford.)

It helps to say straight off, to spare us searching and asking. ;)

H!
As you can see I've never used this tool before. How very helpful you all are! Many, many thanks!!
Maurice Cope (b. 1933 in Ilkeston, registered under Basford) is an Uncle on my Fathers side that I never knew I had.
I think that he's still alive and living in a nursing home, judging by the other names that he is 'living with'
However, I am unable to view or investigate any other further as I'm not a member of 192.com
Any further help would be greatly appreciated and once many thankyou's! :D

Hi Janey Canuck
Yes I do know the other person who has Maurice in their tree. I have also found his birth record on Ancestry.com
His parents were Willoughby Cope and Sarah Marshall :D

Unfortunately we seem to have nobody here these days who is doing electoral roll lookups. There have usually been one or two in the last couple of years, but people's subs have run out, they've got busy ...

I usually think the same as you when I see a load of unrelated names in a household e.g. at 192.com. Sometimes what has happened is that they have mashed a bunch of people in different households at the same address into a single household, but that's the exception.

You can buy credits at 192.com to view the record. It's expensive, but it may be the only way. I've heard that tracesmart is a better option, but I have a feeling the cost may be similar.

There's a better way to search 192.com than doing it directly. At google, search for this

site:www.192.com "jane x smith"

except using the name you want, of course. The results will give you city, county and first part of postcode. (Searching directly at 192.com gets you none of that info, unless you guess it correctly.) The other trick for 192.com is that when it tells you you've exceeded your free searches, you go to where you clear your cookies in your browser and delete those cookies and start over.

I did that for the child with the least common name (after finding marriage to have spouse's name). Nothing after 2004. Tried the daughter ... nothing after marriage, aargh. The other child's name is too common.

Okay, no, did manage to track the daughter on the ER, to 2010. Some spelling problems. I'm going to send you that, although I can't find current info to match at BT online.

-- edit -- Aargh! I was tracing someone with the exact same name born in the same quarter, but a different place with different mother. So my report is: nothing useful found, but maybe the info will help somehow. Don't forget facebook!

Choccy, just so others of us following the thread are up to speed -- for Maurice? Can you just say where found?

The electoral roll history does seem to suggest that Maurice and possibly his wife have died since 2005 ...

I still think that Maurice is in a nursing home.
If anyone has 192.com credits he can be found. I was going to buy credits but the web site states that full annual memership is also required.
Choccy gave me a link but sadly it wasn't Maurice Cope. :-)
