Apparently Benjamin's father or grandfather was the mayor of Bethnal Green??

Maybe Benjamin's father used the name William and Benjamin?

I think the 1881 you have posted is correct because the occupation of Benjamin (the father) is blacksmith

maybe he used both names or maybe it is incorrect on the marriage record image?

new info: on the marriage record it also says Benjamin (jr) was a plumber.

There is a 1901 census image of a Benjamin Davis a plumber age abt 21 living as a boarder with a Matilda Cannell, a widow, in Bethnal Green

and also a marriage between a Benjamin Davis and a Sarah Cannell in 1864 in Bethnal Green. Benjamin is said to be a blackmsith and his father William Davis is also a blacksmith . Witnesses are William Cannell and Matild Cannell.

anyone think this is a possibility ?
