TRAINOR-BALLYBNO-COUNTY CAVAN-IRELAND

Hi everyone,

Is there an Irish researcher on here who knows County Cavan pretty well?

I'm researching my 2xGreat Grandmother,Anne Trainor, who came out from Co.Cavan on the "Albatross"in 1841 arriving in Sydney ,NSW with her older brother Anthony and possibly her father,James, and another brother John.James' wife was Margaret Clarke, she died in 1839.The shipping record for Anthony states that he comes from Ballybno,County Cavan,Ireland.I have Googled it,searched the map of Cavan, etc., and I can't find a place name that's remotely like it in Cavan. There was also another place name which I haven't been able to find-it looked like
Dromualin,or similar, where Patrick Clarke, who vouched for Anthony Trainor's character, lived, also in Co.Cavan.

Does anyone know if these places still exist,or did exist in 1841,and the names have changed?

If anyone has any connection with this family I would love to hear from them!

Thank you for your time,

Margot.

And this Ballyconnell C Cavan?

Gee Report 21 May 2011 09:04

And Knockbride C Cavan...I see thats on the shipping record

Richard Clark looks to come from Bailieborough C Cavan

Looking at the ships record for Ann, does it not say her parents are James and Margaret?

Is Anthonys birth place abreviated to Ballybro?

Hmmm....Drumlummon,it's a possible..

And Ballybro/Ballybno could be short for Bailieborough..

Ballyconnell,no I don't think so. I think it's more likely to be Bailieborough.

Thank you,Ginny, for your help..you know what they say, about fresh eyes,
it's true,I can put away my magnifying glass now, LOL

Many,many thanks,

Margot.

MargarettawasMargot Report 21 May 2011 09:37

Our replies crossed,I'm a slow typist. No, I don't have access here,on GR,only on Ancestry, and I got the shipping record from "Ozships"which is an Australian site.Ancestry only had Anthony's details, not Anne's,I hadn't seen hers at all.

Thank you soooo much for your help, Ginny,I am deeply grateful,..xx

Other family members were John, her brother, and James, her father.I know that John came out, to Australia, but I'm not sure when.Someone else on Ancestry had all 4 on the same voyage, but I've only found the 2 of them on that voyage.

Sorry,our messages crossed again!

No, Ginny, that's not the right death for her.She married William McManus from Fermanagh, and lived at Kilmore, country Victoria. She would have died in Victoria.I've got a death for an Ann McManus in 1901 in Clifton Hill, Melbourne, Vic., which I'm pretty sure is hers, but I have to purchase the certificate to make sure.

My Success Story thanking you has just vanished into cyberspace-I can't imagine why, there was nothing controversial in it,or sensitive. How weird!!

It was there last night,I didn't delete it!! Okay, I will just put it up again, and hope that this one doesn't vanish without an explanation!

Many thanks, you're a star,Ginny,I truly appreciate everything you have done.

As far as I know,I haven't verified this,James was born in 1793,died?? after 1841, where??,possibly County Cavan, Ireland. His wife Margaret Clarke was born C1795,died about 1839,although I haven't been able to confirm that as yet. Yes, the Irish records are pretty painful, aren't they?

I'm okay with all the Trainor family details once they came to Australia, but finding the family relationships wasn't easy.I copied down everything I could find on them, not knowing what was relevant and what wasn't,and hoped that I could eventually sort it all out. Thanks to you, some of that info. is making sense now. I also know now that some of it isn't relevant to the immediate family, but still could be related, like a cousin, brother, etc.

Anne Trainor married William McManus in 1848 in the RC church in Melbourne.I have a record of all their children.Margaret McManus, their eldest daughter, married Denis Griffin. They were my Great Grandparents.Anne's brother John also lived in Kilmore in the 1850's, and had one of the first mail runs in the area, before moving to NSW.

You never know Ginny,I have so many Irish lines on my Mother's side, you might just be hearing from me in the future,LOL!! Many thanks for the offer:)))
