Find Ancestors

I'm currently looking for any information about my Gtx2 Grandfather, Francis Gorman, who as far as I can find was born in Dublin but I am unsure of his DOB.

He left Ireland and came to Liverpool where he married Sarah Burkey, b.1836 in Liverpool, daughter of John and Sarah [am hoping Francis was around the same age!] on 9th May 1853. Francis was a Shoemaker and Sarah a Bookbinder.

They had, that I can find record of, 6 children : James, Martha, Sarah, William, Martha and John none of whom survived very long apart from my Gt Grandfather, William Henry [b.1866, d.1923].

Am trying to find out exactly where and when Francis was born, who his parents were and if he had any siblings. I know Irish records can be particularly difficult to find but any help would be hugely appreciated!

How can you know the exact date of marriage...and occupations..without knowing how old Francis was, and the name of his father?

I have just ordered the marriage certificate so hopefully that will provide me with his Father's name & occupation.

Have searched the FreeBMD site for his death but none seem to add up on the age if he was born c1836. Have found a death record for a Sarah Gorman in 1885 [age 49 which matches with her 1836 dob] registered in Preston, which is the district on the 1871 census and where my Gt Grandfather and Grandfather were born so am hoping that is her!

I got the marriage date from someone else who looked it up on a website [don't know which one unfortunately] but they didn't pass on either father's info., just the marriage details, and have not replied to any of my mails requesting that info. since so I've given up on them!

A tree on Ancestry which has the marriage has the father of Francis as John. The tree is owned by Stewart J J Davies but it has no other information on Francis.

Very strangely, - I have looked at the Parish register entries for St. Peter's on-line and there is no entry for these people on that date ???

Astra - Maybe that is where the information came from, what website is that? Looks like it could be very useful for further research. So I now need to find info on his father John and his mother! :)
