Hi,

Could someone please advise who is living at 50 New Street, Haydock, Wigan in 1871.

It is an address from a birth cert for John Duffey in Dec 1873. Says mother Mary Duffey (nee BULGER/BOLGER) living at that address. Father is named as James Duffey.

I have found a marriage for a John Duffey and Mary Bulger in DEC 1872 and Mary Bulger is a servant on a farm in the area in 1871 as per the census. (says she was born Wixford, Ireland)

I was maybe hoping that some relatives were living at the address. (Although probably not!)

Thanks, Jo

Hello Joanne, are you sure it says Haydock, Wigan? Haydock isn't classed as being part of Wigan - it's nearer St. Helens and would come under the Warrington reg. district.

The two areas which Maddie mentioned...Pemberton is part of Wigan and Blackrod is usually classed as being part of Bolton but some parts may just come under Wigan reg.

I had a quick look for the marriage on Lancs opc but I couldn't find - it may have taken place in a registry office.

Not sure if this helps but it may clarify areas a little for you. Regards. Cx

Toll Bar is in St Helens, and maybe the registration district could be Prescot. I lived about a mile from Toll Bar when I was a child good luck Eileen
