Find Ancestors

Hi All,
I've hit a brick wall. I'm looking for a Bridget Russell, my Great Grandmother. I've found her in the 1901 Census living in Richmond, Yorkshire with her family and a tenuous entry in the 1891 Census but without her family as a widow in Liverpool! She was 48 in 1901.

"I have good info from 1901 census but before that I was struggling as she became widowed and I don't know her maiden name or her husbands christian name etc. "

"Yes, I've just found it tonight, it's the tenuous link I mentioned. She's lodging with a Richard Thornley family in 1891 at 18 Potter St. and is described as 'Living on own means'. A widow from Dublin! "

** I don't think this is the right Bridget - she's too old (would have been 70 when Esther was born in 1901)

I know Bridget's age varies quite a bit in the previously posted census records, but this is too much.

Mike - which one of Bridget's children is your grandparent?

Their birth certificate should give you her maiden name and their marriage certificate may have the father's name.

Personally, I think there may have been some judicious use of the term widow.

This 1891 follows on from the 1881 that Brummiejan found and I think is more likely:

MarieCeleste and brummiejan have cracked it! The reason for my confusion was around MarieCelestes question 'which one of Bridget's children is your grandparent?' In fact my Grandfather was the son of one of Bridgits children, Ethel Maud, who had him out of wedlock! She married aThomas Thornhill 2 years later. His dad? I'm not sure!

In that case, wasn't Bridget your great great grandmother then? ;-)

Yes, I see Ethel lodging with Thomas and his wife in 1911, the Thornhills have a child listed with the surname Russell too.
