Seeking information on Jane Ann Dobson in Western Australia
known as Jane Ann Sayers and Jane Ann Scott.
Born 1874 to Joseph and Isabella Dobson at Newcastle on Tyne.
Cannot find or verify any marriages/ arrival Australia.
Husband Wilson Sayers married Newcastle on Tyne 1900 cannot find any births.
Arrived in Australia and for some reason seperated from Wilson Sayers never divorced (that I can find ) and lived as man and wife with H arold Scott till his death in an accident at the East Perth Power Station in 1929.
Listed on daughters Violet Scott's marriage certicate as parents Jane Anne Dobson and Harold Scott.
Buried 1944 as Jane Ann Sayers mother of William and Violet Scott

Violet cannot find record of her as birth Violet Scott but did find a Violet Sayers born Perth 1913.
Violet Married AW Biddle 1932 had 3 children divorced 1944
partner Leeson Nelson to death 7 June 1949 ? also had children cannot find record of marriage or anymore children

I noticed that Harold was born in Sth Australia, is there a possibility that she might have also have been born there, and travelled to West Aust together?

Violet 's POB on form when her children placed in care was East Perth Western Australia.
as Violet's mother never officially married Harold Scott, my dilemma is Violet and her brother William actually a Scott or a Sayers.
Unable to verify dates when Jane Ann and Harold actually connected. He joined the army in 1916 in Western Australia and lists Mrs Jane Ann Sayers as NOK friend.
I have only just found the actual Harold Scott in the last 2 days, spent many months searching. Still double checking that I have correct Harold and Jane Ann.
Any advice and pointers are greatly appreciated, as with all sides of my family have hit brick walls once get to my grandparents.

Coming at it from looking at her DOBSON brothers

The West Australian, Tuesday 4 March 1947, p.1
DOBSON.-On March 3, 1947 at the Royal Perth Hospital, John William, beloved husband of the late Georgina Dobson, beloved father of Kate (Mrs. Langton), Joseph, John, Albert, Jim, Bill (killed in action), and May (Mrs. Douglas), and father-in-law of Bill (deceased), Irene, Hazel, Myrtle, Una and Alec; aged 65 years. One of the best.

Georgina Catherine died Dec 4th 1944, aged 74. They lived in Albert St, North Perth and were married in 1923 (as NICKELS). Shown as mother of Eva (Mrs Dowsett. deceased), Lilla (Mrs Whiskin, deceased) and Walter (Upper Liveringa) and stepmother of Kate, Joe, Jack, Albert, James, William and May (Mrs Douglas). So John must have had a previous marriage.

Joseph DOBSON died 26 Aug 1947 aged 72. His death notices show him as uncle of Kate, Joe, Albert, John, Jim, May, Bell, Jess, John and Bill. Also a notice from May & Alex Douglas, which seals the deal. And brother of Jess and Jack (deceased). No mention of Jane.

This means Joseph was born c1875 and John W b. c1882.

Jane's age at death makes her born c1879 and Jess' c1887.

No matching births in WA.

There is also a Joseph DOBSON b. 1875 at Newcastle on Tyne, Northumberland, who enlisted in WWI in Perth WA aged 39; he shows his next of kin as mother Mrs E. Dobson of 52 Padbury St Perth. The E has been crossed out and replaced with 'Isabella'. He was a blacksmith.

An Isabella DOBSON died in Dec 1924 aged 75; grantee on her grave is Joseph Dobson.

He was 71. Grantee is Alice May Stephens. Possible death for her in 1967 aged 85.

I note the grantee on Jane Ann Sayers' burial was Wiliam Scott.


Just in case you still have doubts, this is Jessie's marriage in same place, confirming her husband's name in her death notices.

Jane shown as Jennie, with 2 children. Not sure what happened to them - perhaps they died in SA?

Looks like William and Violet were born as SAYERS in 1913 and 1916, in WA. Seems they adopted the surname Scott.

I'd suggest ordering the birth certificate of Wm or Violet. It should tell you quite a lot.

Fantastic to have clarity and facts verified, sometimes like stumbling in the dark.
Your information has been invaluble and nice to have someone look at it from different angle, never thought to look to SA for arrival.
I was able to trace back using Jessie Davy, Jane Ann's sister, but not completely getting all the dates and I have spent a week going over Trove.
I know Violet was 34years old in 1949 her year of death. have her marriage certificate named Harold Scott and Jane Ann Dobson as parents born East Perth. I think because Harold and Jane not married best bet to get the certificate for Violet Sayers born 1914.
But has been an exciting week, has taken me over 2 years to finally find Harold and Jane Ann.
As an aside when found Jane Ann buried as Jane Ann Sayers I thought she had remarried after Harold died, had to chuckle if Violet a Sayers, as Violet's daughter, my mother married a Sayers (family stems from Ireland).
It's all relative lol..

UPDATE: maybe new family connection..
Thanks to Cherilynn's assistance re ship passengers
for Wilson Sayers have found a Jennie Sayers married John R Keith in Perth WA 1922.
Jennie died in 1922 aged 40 yrs in Albury NSW family notice from Mrs Davy Palmyra WA for her niece. Believe this may be my family connection. Strange though no family notice from either Jane Ann or Wilson Sayers.
Also found that both listed William Scott and William Sayers born 1913 Perth WA have the same birth registration number. Not so for Violet only found a Violet listed as Sayers 1914 not Scott.
Will continue hunting :-)

I have just jopined genes united but have been interseted in geneology fior years
The wilson Sayers jennieDobson story has intrigued me for a long time My grandmother was Jane Peacock Sayer b 1901 She called herself jennie She died aged 40 in Albury NSW
Until last year I knew nothing of William or Violet and it was a complete shock to my mother, Jennie's 3rd child. Interestingly my mother said jennie never spoke of her parents and for a long time she had wondered if Jennie and her brother Joseph had been sent to Australia as orphans ! Clearly this is now not true
