in 1891 Catherine (daughter) was listed as BALDWIN b c1879 but in 1881 she was KIRBY/KIRBEY.

I would assume that they meant 32 years together, rather the actual of being husband and wife.

The 1879 marriage to Elizabeth Perkins seems unlikely as this is David in 1881 - there are no others in the household:

It is possible that, if it is your David, they were estranged??

Vanessa, isn't the David 1881 above likely to be him as living with Mary Kirby? Your idea of estrangement might still holds though.

There are a few trees with him on Ancestry, one at least has the marriage to Elizabeth Perrkins in Derbyshire. Whether this is fact or speculation hard to say! It does have the exact date though which implies they might have the cert?

I have been looking at the census details for David from 1861 to 1911.

I think David lived with Mary Kirby as common law wife until they married in 1913. Reason: Hannah was born 1877 and Maria 1902, with 10 children in between all registered as son/daughter on census, so I don't think he had time to marry anyone else.

P.S. Just looked at the David that married Elizabeth Perkins on Familysearch, I do not think it would be your David.

Edit: The best way to check would be to get the 1913 certificate.

Hi Jan

Scenario given if the marriage to Elizabeth Perkins was this David as definitely just him showing on 1881 from familysearch.. Just re-checked to be sure.
His birth info seems to be consistent throughout the census, suggesting this as his possible christening:
