This may be a long shot but here goes:
From a family letter dated 1878 the writer John Fletcher says "grandma Fletcher died 23rd April 1878 and was buried in Witton cemetery". Now I don't know how the NBI is arranged and whether it would be possible to find an elderly person burried at Witton, Birmingham without knowing the christian name.
Witton have given me details for another burial, but want a whopping £50 for details of other people in the grave, and I don't know if grandma Fletcher is in the said grave.
Grandma Fletcher would have been buried possibly upto a week after the death date.

Hope someone can help. Many thanks

Chris.
Try the Local History section at B´ham Central Library. I know they have a film of burials at Witton because I found my g grandfather there.
Only problem is I can´t remember what dates they have on film.

Nothing on the NBI 3rd Edition (Witton not covered) you could try asking if someone could help you at the Birmingham History Forum website

Thank you wisechild and Chris for your replies and help. I am planning a trip to Birmingham library soon so will certainly look at the film for Witton cemetery.

For general information, due to the re-siting of the library in 2013 there is going to be limited access to the Family history on the 6th floor from sometime in July.

Probably wont be any worse than when all the escalators in the whole building were out of action for months. Theres no staircase & only one lift which holds about 8 people.
Good for the calf muscles though, climbing up 6 floors of stationary escalators.
