The name Mercia is of English origin and means "mercy". It also means "mercy" in Latin.

If they were a staunch Catholic family, this may not be an unusual choice of name given the amount of Latin used in the Catholic religion.

Go to www.gro.gov.uk this is the cheapest site.

You will have to register and copy info off the message with Mercia's birth details.
You will need the Volume and page number and date of birth and where registered.

The certificates cost £9 25p

Thank you so much everyone who has replied, I was not expecting anything to come of it but you are spot on. I thought her name must have been Mercy because they were a catholic family and very down to earth. I could not imagine them calling a child Mercia because it is so unusual, the R must stand for Rose my Grandmothers name. How do i go about buying her birth certificate?

If the information found IS that of your father's sister, then you should buy her death certificate

that will tell you what she died of, and exactly when she died.

Hi
I am looking for any records of my Fathers sister who died in childhood.
I believe her name was Mercy or similar. She was born in Leicester to Rose and James Edeson. I do not know the year but my Father was born in 1925 and I believe it would be in close years to this. If you have access to th the death records and come across anything please let me know as I have no record of her existance and as my (deceased) Father was thwe only surving child I would like to know a little more about her.
Yvonne Clayton (Edeson)
