Looking for help in tracing the parents of Arthur who married Eliza Bidmead - also of Bath - at Bristol Reg. Office 1857. Mrg.Cert states father as Benjamin Brunt - a wheelwright, and an earlier document C1851 states his grandfather as Soloman Arthur of Walcot, Bath. Julia

Thanks everyone for your info - I now have further complication/puzzle - I have copy mrg. cert for a Sarah Jane Brunt to Albert Frederick Gaultier August 1857 at St.Pancras Church, Middlesex which states the father of Sarah as being Arthur Brunt - 'dead'. Is there yet another Sarah Jane Brunt who links with Walcot, Bath? Can't believe that the deceased name of Arthur Brunt is in error. If she is brother to original Arthur Brunt b.1834, then the father should surely be Benjamin unless their mother married a 2nd time to a ?brother/cousin. Would appreciate some help.

Astra Report 27 May 2011 13:23

The problem is that we never did find Arthur in 1841. We found Sarah Jane who is the daughter of Sarah and Benjamin (wheelwright) but is it the same Benjamin who is the father of Arthur. Where is Arthur in 1841. Why isn't he with his mother and Sarah Jane. He would only have been around 6. Was he brought up by his grandparents who he is with in 1851?
We need to know when Benjamin died and I couldn't find any record of it. Maybe someone else will be able to find it.

It could of course just be that Sarah was not aware of her father's name and gave that of her brother.

Having just re-checked the census for 1841 I noticed that there were a great many entries for Somerset that are totally illegible because they are so badly faded. Solomon and family could be on one of them.
