Hi,

Does anyone know where I might be able to get details of a flying accident? the only problem is I only have a name and year and place of birth!

Thanks

Newspaper archives are the best place.

However have you tried googling?

Was there a death involved? If it was in England/Wales and you have the name and date of birth, as long as it wasn't John Smith, you would have a reasonable chance of finding the death in the GRO index at FreeBMD or Ancestry, depending on when it was.

You have an idea when it occurred ... after there was aviation ;) and the date of birth would give some guidance, if the person was an adult at death, etc.

In the UK the Air Accidents Investigation Branch site may have a report in its archives

If he was a civil pilot and it was before 1950, then his certificate (which may include a photo) could be available on line via ancestry if you have access.

Might be worth searching Flight Magazine
