Would someone be able to look to see if my Uncle CHARLES DOUGLAS appears in the 1930 or 40 US census please? He emigrated to Canada in 1929 (via Quebec and possibly to Montreal - my thanks to Ginny for that bit). We now think he may have gone on to America, possibly Illinois (there is a reference in the 1930 census to a Charles Douglas b. 1907 on Ancestry but I don't have access to these records.
Uncle Charles was born on the 29 March 1907 in Kelty, Beath, Fife and was recorded as a Printer when he left Scotland. His parents were John Douglas and Janet Beveridge.
We don't know if he married or died over there so any clues would be very gratefully received.
Thank You

There are actually a few of them b 1907 on the 1930 census, but all of them give places of birth in the USA

The only Charles Douglas from Scotland in Illinois (or elsewhere) in 1930 was born in 1904. He is in a state penitentiary, so no occupation showing.

Thank you very much Linda and Patchem for taking the trouble to look for me.
Bit worrying about the one in the penitentiary! DoB dates aren't always accurate so I wonder whether there is anyway of checking him out in a later census (assuming he wasn't in for life)?
My thanks anyway.

Thanks again Patchem. I shall have to think of another way around this problem of my elusive Uncle.
It really is a needle and haystack situation isn't it!
