fathers surnames

hiya does anyone no how to find out a persons fathers surname without looking on their birth certificate it tells you their mothers on records when you search for people

If the child's name is different on the index to the mother's maiden name then the father's surname is the same as that of the child.

However if the child's name and the mother's maiden name is the same then the father probably isn't mentioned on the birth certificate.
