Find Ancestors

I am looking for info about 2 sisters Eliza Sykes born in Ringstead Northants in 1879 also her sister Elizabeth born 1882, I am trying to find Marriages And Deaths but can't work out which is which, Parents are Rachel & Henry Sykes,can anyone help.

Well, in the 1911 census Eliza was listed as single - aged 32yrs living with her mother Rachel who was a widow by that time so Henry must have died between 1901 and 1911. Interestingly at the same address there was a child listed as the grand-daughter of Rachel who was called either (can't read it properly) Joy or Ivy Robinson (B. approx 1906). The only marriage I can find in Northampton area as potential for Eliza after this date is in Thrapston in 1919 to Ernest E Mayes (ref 3b,565).

Hope this might give you something more to look at.

Ive just checked births in Northants for Eliza Sykes and there is only one (which is your girl) from 1878 to 1905

So the marriage/death that I posted is more than likely her...I'd say Im 99% sure

You really need the certificate to confirm her father for the marriage

Does anyone by chance know the date of Rachel's death, she was alive in 1911,her maiden name was Ball, born 1851 Northants

Not sure whether this might be of interest to you at this stage but there is a website for sikes-sykesfamilies.rootsweb where it discusses the origin of this surname. I believe the DNA profile was started by Bryan Sykes. There are 8 possible clusters of the family before 1400. May be worth a read.(Locally it is as difficult to trace as Smith, in fact much harder.)

Ginny I am still taking it all in, I have actually found2 marriages for Eliza, she seems to have married thomas sharpe he died early, so it could have been 2 marriages!! I am still checking. I thank you so much for all your help.

Theres no marriage for an Eliza Sykes to a Thomas Sharpe in Northants or anywhere that I can see?

The only marriage for her is that which I posted earlier.

If she had married a second time, she would have used her married name

I have also checked for a death for an Eliza Sharpe and I cant see anything that matches

So Id say all the cross checking reinforces the previous info that I posted about Eliza Sykes

Looks like a certificate is the next step
