Find Ancestors

I am trying to find out who lived at 10 Colton Road, Harrow Middlesex in 1947.

I think my grandmother Margaret Patterson nee Steel sailed from Wellington NZ in 1947 to London and in the ship's (Rangitata) manifest she showed her residential address as 10 Colton Road, Harrow MX. Her step mother's name was Joan Steel. I was too young to remember my grandmother travelling back to the UK but I understood she went back to visit her step mother (Joan Steel). She arrived back in NZ early 1948 and the same address was shown on the shipping list.

My grandparents came from Scotland so it was unexpected that she would show an english address as it was assumed she travelled back to Scotland (Dalrymple).

I have been unable to locate a death for Joan Steel in Scotland but I have found a Joan F Steel on a listing and she died in 1953 at Harrow. She was 85. No other details were provided

I am seeking help in two ways.
1. Is there anyway I can find out who lived in 10 Colton Road Harrow in 1947
2. Can someone help me locate more details on the death of Joan F Steel in Harrow in 1953.

The Joan Steel (nee Frew) I have in my family tree was born about 1868. Most likely in Ayrshire. Her parents were Alexander Frew and Isabella Nimmo. She was married in 1891 to William Steel in Dalrymple.

The only way to learn more is to purchase the cert...but, it won't give any info about maiden name or birthplace.

It should, however include the husband's name...........if this lady had been married. And, of course, her full second name................

There is no marriage in Scotland for a Margaret Steel marrying a Patterson,neither there a daeth in Scotland that fits Margaret Steel in the 1901 Census .Moved to England?

I think I will have to purchase the death certificate for Joan F Frew in 1953 at Harrow.

I am unfamiliar with a UK death certificate but Flick has provided me with some information above on what would be contained in the death certificate.

Would the death certificate show the husband's name even though he had died earlier than Joan. Also would it provide the name of the informant and relationship with the deceased

Yes...if the husband's name was known to the informant, whose name, address and 'qualification' ** will be on the cert

** In this case, meaning the person's authority to register the death. If related, the relationship will be stated
