Cath2010 Report 27 May 2011 19:57

While searching for my great grandparents burial records I came across another couple with the same names and from the same street.
My G Grandparents Hugh and Isabella Johnston (nee McCaughey) married at St Annes church of Ireland on 7th February 1887. Hughs father was named on cert as also being Hugh and address was 27 Wilton Street, Belfast. I now have their burial records (Carnmoney cemetery, Belfast) grave and plot number 83/X and a photo of headstone to confirm this.
I know next to nothing about Hughs father apart from his name and approximate year of birth 1842.
I have found a couple in the City cemetery, grave number G/1463, Belfast also named Hugh (died 1893 aged 50) and Isabella Johnston who lived at 47 Wilton Street and given the dates of death and age at death there is a slim possibility these could be my GG grandparents .I have been unable to find out any more about this couple and don't know if it's worth pursuing. Any advice would be welcome as I'm still a novice.
I hope you can understand this posting as it looks a bit confusing

Was your g grandad young enough to have a civil birth rego? Failing this, do you have his baptism? It would help to confirm your gg gran was Isabella.

Have you checked the 1901/1911 census - if Isabella was living with your g grandparents, again would help, etc.

The GRO(I) index thru 1958 (excl N. Ireland post-partition) is available at:
https://www.familysearch.org/s/collection/list#page=1®ion=EUROPE

One can purchase certs (or cheaper still, the uncertified images of the rego) via:
http://www.groireland.ie/

The Irish 1901/1911 censuses are free at:
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/
[Not heard of any release dates for next census (=1926 in both Irelands)]

AoGG and mgnv, thank you for helping.
I need to find out about Hugh Johnston born c1842 and died 18th september 1893 aged 50. Because of the lack of Irish census during this time I haven't found a thing and as he died before 1901 I won't find him on that either. I have looked for a marriage to an Isabella with no luck apart from the one for my G grandparents which I already have. I can't even be sure there is a connection but as I'm at the brick wall stage anything is worth investigating.
I'm grateful for your help.
