Thanks again Ann of Green Gables, I think I will be mulling over these for a while. Also Vicci for your input.

Thank you so much for all your info. Yes, that does look like the arrival of John and Martha Bassett in 1861.
It doesn't seem like Susan and Jane went with John and Martha, because Jane was already in NZ by 1856. Just not sure when she went there though. I have "lost" her between the 1851 UK census and her marriage in NZ in 1856. Yes that is the correct family on the 1851 census.

Thanks everyone, every bit helps to put the family together.

Regards, Carole

Hi Carole.

A possible for John and Martha BASSETT

Index to Unassisted Inward Passenger Lists to Victoria 1852-1923

BASSETT JOHN age 70 DEC 1861 ship GREAT BRITAIN.... B 197 009
BASSETT M MRS age 65 DEC 1861ship GREAT BRITAIN.. B 197 009

B = embarked at British Port

Ages would be approx.
Given that this John BASSETT was aged 70 at time of arrival to Victoria in 1861 would give this John a birth c.1791 which ties in with the inf you supplied.

I am still looking for evidence of when some people entered Australia.
Would anyone be able to help please?

The names are:
Susan Carbis born 1837 Cornwall
Jane Carbis born 1830 Cornwall
We have looked for these sisters before with no luck.

However I now have some more names who might be linked, and would like those checked please.

Martha Bassett nee Carbis born 1794 Cornwall
Martha married John Bassett in 1812 in Paul, Cornwall. She died in 1882 and is buried at Eaglehawk cemetery, Victoria.
Martha would possibly be the aunt of Jane and Susan Carbis mentioned above.

John Bassett born 1791 Madron, Cornwall. Died 1868 Eaglehawk, Victoria.

William Carbis born 1766 Redruth Cornwall. The info I have is that he died in 1863 at Darling Harbour Sydney, I hope that date is correct. William is Martha's father, therefore possibly Jane and Susan's grandfather .

I would love any information on this family please, especially anyone who travelled with them to Australia.
