Hi, I'm looking for any information on Ann Elizabeth Anderson, born on the 19th August, 1866 at Goulburn Street in Sydney. Her father is listed on the birth certificate as Charles Anderson - born Sweden - and mother is Jane (nee Parker) - born Cambridge. They had been living in Tasmania earlier and moved to Sydney. Am unable to find any information on Ann following her birth. Thankyou for any help. Jan

have had a thorough search and cannot find anything - and looking at the number of people who have read your posting, don't think they could either - sorry :-)

I have searched Trove and came up blank. Have you any information on the parents after Ann was born?

Also I notice there are a few other Anderson children on the NSWBDM site born to a Charles and Jane do you know the names of any other children?

Hi Jan. Have been having a look. Found one marriage so far to a Henry Hodge 1887 in Victoria but will go to the history centre in the next couple of days to try and get a birth place for this Ann to see if it matches. Also I have found three deaths so far for a charles anderson in tasmania. Do you know any details on him that I could use to cross check. Regards Debbie.

Hi, thanks very much for your replies - I'm so grateful. I was away for a couple of days and couldn't reply and apologise for the delay. Charles and Jane had Hannah in 1861 in Tasmania but she unfortunately died there in 1862. The only other child of the union (that I know of) of Charles and Jane is Ida Jane Anderson, born in 1873 in the Benevolent Asylum, Sydney. Charles died, I think around 1873 and Jane remarried to Louis Abel in 1874. Charles was from Sweden originally. That's about all I know at this stage. Thankyou for any and all help. Jan

Possible NSW deaths for Chas

7188/1875 ANDERSON CHARLES AGE 27 YEARS DIED MCLEAY RIVER
10176/1875 ANDERSON CHARLES AGE ABOUT 30 YEARS DIED WAGGA WAGGA
159/1867 ANDERSON CHARLES AGE 32 YEARS DIED SYDNEY

Note if he was born in Sweden it is likely his birth name was not Charles ANDERSON, unless his parents were actually Scottish. More likely ANDERS or ANDERSSON, possibly Carl.

Louis ABEL died in 1911 in Sydney, aged 58. Unfortunately I can't find a death notice for him, which may have been useful.

It appears Jane may have married again, that same year, to Alfred THOMPSON? (reg 447).

Do you know her parents names? Her death notice would be even more useful again. in finding daughter Ann.

Ah it appears Ida changed her name to ABEL:

2384/1891 GALLIE GEORGE [m] ABEL IDA J BALMAIN

her death

1942/1937 GALLIE IDA JANE (ABEL) 63 YRS MARRICKVILLE MARRICKVILLE

NB it is possible Louis was her father and that Chas did die prior to her birth...the 1867 death is the only one in the right area...

The Sydney Morning Herald, Tuesday 2 March 1937
GALLIE.-March 1, 1937, at a private hospital. Marrickville, Ida Jane, relict of the late George Henry Gallie, and loving mother of Alfred, George, and Eva, aged 63 years.

George Henry Hayward GALLIE died 8th Oct 1929, son of George & Rebecca.

It is interesting that the funeral of an infant son of William Jas & Caroline ANDERSON moved from the residence of a Mrs Gallie in Gordon St, Balmain in 1885!

This is the same street address of the father of Ida's husband George GALLIE, also named George, at his death in 1900.

Must be some connection.

George & Ida had another son, named Charles in 1896; he died in 1896 (reg as GALLIC).
