Hi,
i was wondering if someone would be able to check to see if there are any service records for Wilfred Hubert Thomas born 1882 in Yorkshire. He was a carpenter and his wife was called Sarah. His parents were also called Wilfred and Sarah. I have a picture of him in his uniform but don`t recognise the cap badge. I know many records were destroyed in WW2 so i appreciate i may not get an answear
Many Thanks

For a start he is not Wilfred HUBERT but Wilfred Henry as evidenced by the 1891 census (Wilfred HY) and the birth registration Wilfred henry Thomas b 1881 Jul Q Beverley Yorks
But even having corrected that I can t find him in Service records or pension records
There are two Wilfred Thomases in the medal rolls
One for the Honourable artillery reg no 11309
Second for the Royal Garrison Artillery reg no 371196
but they give no details of address, place of birth or family
(he had 3 children by 1911)
One possibility is to send a copy of the photo to the Imperial War Museum to see of they can identify the badge

1911 6,Cardiff Road Watford.
Wilfred Thomas born Beverley
Sarah born Durham
Clarence C Thomas 1905 Gloucestershire
Bernard E 1906 Glouc.
Gladys J 1908 Oxon.

I think the one above this message is not the same Wilfred.

1891 he is Wilfred Hy Thomas a carpenter at Wymondham D 3 > 20
Dad Wilfred 1857 a carpenter born Shipton Yorks
Sarah 1868 Pocklington she is Sarah Mary.

Thank you for your contributions. I wrote his middle name without double checking. I think i got it it mixed up with his brother called Herbert. The main thing is that although there is no fine detail on the cap badge it does have quite an unusual look to it and i am sure if i look up the regiments you mention i will at least be able to compare them. Also ,sending it to the War Museum is a good idea. Thank you again for your help.

I`ve compared the picture to web sites of WW1 badges and it looks like the cap badge of the Middlesex Regiment!. The National Archives does have a Herbert Thomas of the Middlesex Regiment. It is a possibilty that i was given the wrong name for the the picture. I apologise for wasting your time. His brother Herbert ( occupation, carpenter)was born in 1890 in Canning Town, London area. The reason for the different birth locations is that they all worked on the railways. I now have to hope that some one will check the service records for Herbert ( son of Wilfred and Sarah),but i completely understand if i do not get a reply
Kind Regards
n ick

He seems to have been born and registered as Herbert Enzor Thomas 1890 Jan Q West ham (which covers Canning Town but I cant find anything definite in Service Records on Ancestry

Could it be that the photo is of yet another brother?
Stanley George Robin Thomas b 1891 Jul Q Melton Mowbray and in 1901 his birthplace is shown as Wymondham Leics son of Wilfred and sarah

Stanley George Thomas b Wymondham Leics died of wounds 29/9/1918 France/Flanders
He enlisted at Willesden as Private reg no L/15415 in the Duke of Cambridge's Own (Middlesex ) Regiment 23r Battalion

Sorry, i`ve just got back to checking my messages. As you can see i have uploaded the picture as you suggested although i do not think it is as clear as when i am looking directly at the photograph itself. The initial confusion was caused by my auntie giving me the wrong name but i think you may have worked it out with the brother called Stanley. I have not heard of any stories of a brother being killed in WW1. You think some one would have mentioned that as i know they were a close family. My next step would be to try and find service records of stanley where they might mention next of kin or addresses such as Watford or London where some ended up working. I think there maybe some thing to follow here. Once again thanks very much
