Mary Crowther nee Bretton - County Galway

ProfilePosted byOptionsPost Date

DebifromLeeds Report 28 May 2011 23:49

I would like to find out more about Mary Crowther please.

I believe she married Charles Crowther, sometimes called Chas Crowther, between 1851 to 1861. Previously, Charles had been married to Elizabeth Rothery and had Rothery, Elizabeth and David.
Charles was from Riddlesworth, Norfolk.

I know that Mary was born in county Galway, maybe Kilkenny?

Charles and Mary went on to have John, Reuben (died) and Mary Jane Crowther -my great grandmother.

I would love any info as to,
* where she was born exactly/street etc
* where she was in 1841 and 1851
*Parents names
*maiden name

I believe she died in 1893, aged 67.

In 1861 she lived in Hunslet, Holbeck, Leeds.

In 1871 she lived at 31, Rodgers buildings, Town Street, Holbeck, Beeston, Leeds.

1881 she lived at 7, Mill Fold, Holbeck, Leeds.

1891 she lived at 9, mill Fold,Holbeck, Leeds.

Hope you can help AGAIN.

Best wishes

There are several trees on Ancestry and at least one gives Charles' marriage to Mary in 1858 in Halifax but with no surname

A search on FreeBMD records a marriage between Charles Crowther and a Mary Ann BROWN Q4 1858 ref 9a 540

????
Charles Crowther and Mary's child was John born in 1855 so the marriage in 1854 is more likely?

The two marriages for Charles, to Elizabeth Rothery and Mary Bretton, both have the same father's name, Francis Crowther.

Thanks VERY much Lynski.

I had found a Mary Bretton 1854 Halifax 9a 354
Mary Bell 1855 Bradford 9b 37
Mary Ann Brown Halifax 1858 9a 540

I kind of ruled out the last one, because of the date, with John being born in 1855. I only have access to records on Genes and ancestry do seem to provide more details, as I have recently found out.

If both marriage records for Charles to Elizabeth and Mary Bretton both have his fathers name on, I would think that was definitively her, so I am really grateful.

Just need to see where she was in 1841 and 1851 now.

Oh, that was the correct birth details you found.

Very best wishes

So, I now have more information, three fathers names and the marriage date. Does anyone have access to Irish records for 1841, 1851 and births?

Regards

I found my marriages on familysearch.org which is a free site.

Do you have any certificates so that you can confirm any of this?

DebifromLeeds

DebifromLeeds Report 29 May 2011 22:12

I only seriously started my tree at the start of April, so I must try that site. I have done my research through Genes and Mundia. I don't have access to Irish records so I'm a bit stuck now. I also know that some Irish records are limited. I am hoping someone on here has access.

The info you found fits everything I have found and I only send off for certs when I am really stuck, but as I don't know her birth or how to send off for Irish certs anyway.

Thanks for all your help, as I do have extra information now and her maiden name!

Best wishes
