I never open my tree unless a connection can be demonstrated. I send a message back asking for this information.

Neither do I but they are all from people I have tried to help, so I thought they may be getting hold of the wrong end of the stick so to speak.

Many people who ask for help jump to the conclusion that any info provided must be from someone related..............it wouldn't cross their minds to check - even if they knew how to.

I think you are right, it is an age old problem that some people requesting help think that we are related when they receive the information they were looking for, when of course we are not.

I send a return pm saying something like

"I am one of a niumber of people who help by finding information for people by using subscriptions and memberships in other sites. I have no connection with your family, and therefore would you please close your tree to me. Good luck."

This often happens to me after I have sent a message to a new poster avising them of replies.

I sometimes think they just click on the View trees button because they don't read my message properly. I can receive such requests months and months later.

I usually respond to say that we are not related, I had simply sent them a message re how to find their replies and I hope they had found them etc...

Sometimes they respond to me and sometimes they don't.........

.....t'was ever thus :D
