Absolutely fantastic!!! You are spot on...£180.11s.7d..I suppose after 20yrs in the army he left Georgina fairly comfortably off for those days....Still dying to know where he was born and his parents.
Thanks ever so much

An impressive piece of research! What a pity to get stuck on his parents. Just wondering if getting the will itself would maybe help?

Jan,
don't know much about wills. Is it possible to actually get a copy?

I am a descendent so perhaps legally I would be allowed to view it?
If, by some chance, he bequeathed an item to a relative on his side it could give me a lead.
Thank You,
Mike

Yes, you can get a copy, doesn't matter if you are related. I think they only cost about £5. If before 1858 you can download, after this you have to get a hard copy.

Jonesey has a good thread on this -

I am very fond of wills after I managed to sort out a family mystery with one!
