Looking for death year of John C Grant born Fareham 1932. I believe he died as a child, either in Hampshire or Sussex. Can anyone help please.

Hi just a thought,
I see the mothers maiden name is also Grant could she have married and John adopted by her husband or took his name if so he would be buried under that name not Grant.

Thank you for your replies. The childs surname was Grant as the mother married brothers. Will keep on searching, thanks again.

Just to point out that even if she married brothers, her maiden surname was not Grant, surely?

Paula

Paula Report 31 May 2011 15:53

Her maiden name was Venn before she married the first brother, then she was a Grant when marrying the second brother. This child was born second marriage and on birth record states mothers name as Grant, so surely this would be Grant on the death cert

Paula

Something is not adding up here. No death can be found for David C Grant and I cant see a marriage for a Venn to a Grant?

You have the birth cert for David? Does it say mothers name Grant, formally Venn?

Edit; Sorry I meant John not David.....Doh

JaneyCanuck Report 31 May 2011 22:43

There are 6 Grant-Venn births, 1926-1943, and only 1 marriage to account for 1 of them, the last.

The other births are, in order

Kent
Hampshire
Hampshire
Sussex
Sussex

so there seems to be a connection -- but none for the name you're looking for.

Yes ... Ancestry has messed this one up and called the groom Grsnt.

Marriages Mar 1926
Grant George H A Venn Lambeth 1d 359
Venn Minnie G Grant Lambeth 1d 359

That it?

Ginny - John C, not David C?

Paula, you have the birth certificate? It is supposed to record the mother's "maiden" surname, not her first married surname. A mother might have reported the wrong surname in error, it certainly happened, but it would be unusual.

Charles not John possibly?

I have seen one birth cert where mother stated her previous married name instead of her maiden name ,but that was because she did it on purpose to hide the fact she was divorced..Big scandal back in the 20s that was...

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 31 May 2011 22:56

That is indeed one of the births I was referring to!

Was still trying to sort out the obviously inaccurate info before doing that search ...

Will leave you lot to it then...But you need Paula to come back and clarify things a little really dont you...

JaneyCanuck Report 31 May 2011 23:07

Well don't we think you dunnit, FBG?

The team hits one home again ... at least, if Paula doesn't have an actual birth certificate that says otherwise ...

I have to add that there is no Minnie L Grant marriage to a Grant.

A Minnie Venn born 1895 E Grinstead may have died as Grant 1965 Stepney ...

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 31 May 2011 23:16

There may not be a Minnie L Grant marriage to a Grant JC as she was Minnie G,so how about this one then?Same place, right time? Not long after first hubbies death and the year of mourning over.....just?

Bed for me....~~~

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 31 May 2011 23:52

And I'd copied and pasted that very Minnie G's first marriage (in Lambeth) here, hadn't I?

A confusion of names and initials, I fear.

Thanks guys....I knew something wasnt adding up

Paula come back and feedback please and also let us know if you have the actual birth certificate?

Paula

Paula Report 14 Jun 2011 12:19

Thanks for everyones responses. Family still say that the childs name was Johnny, but guess that could of been what they called him. It seems the birth is most probably Charles B Grant as I have him in the right place to the right parents.
Minnie Grace Venn married George Henry Alfred Grant in Lambeth on 20/2/1926. then married Bert Grant in Lambeth Dec 1930 as FannybyGaslight said.
I do not have a birth or death cert for the child, but will be in Eastbourne next week and will check if there is a record of a John Grant.
