Hiya All.

I wonder if any kind person with access to death records could find the Vol. and page/folio numbers for the following, please?

John William Linge, b c1876, Staindrop
died age c69, Durham East district in1946;

(Ernest) William Lee, b c1876, probably Evenwood
died age c69, Durham East district in 1946.
(Death probably registered as William Lee.)

Also, does anyone know why a birth would be entered twice in the Free Birth Index, ie, the same names, same district, same quarter, same Vol number and consecutive page/folio numbers.

Could this be twins, with the first one dying upon birth and the second child being given the same Christian/Fore names?

Any help would possibly solve a family mystery.

Many thanks, in anticipation,

Joyce

There is this death registered for William Lee -

Name: LEE, William
Registration District: Durham Eastern
County: Durham
Year of Registration: 1946
Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar
Age at death: 69
Volume No: 10A
Page No: 570

I can't find a death for John Wiliam Linge in 1946. Sorry.

EDIT - Could this be John's death (registered as just William) -

Name: LINGE, William
Registration District: Durham Eastern
County: Durham
Year of Registration: 1946
Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar
Age at death: 69
Volume No: 10A
Page No: 570

If the double birth entry you mean is the one for John William Linge then I think that it is just a mistake by the person who was filling out the records to send to the GRO. The page numbers are not the same but consecutive numbers so the name was probably at the bottom of a page and the transcriber has written it out again at the top of the next page. Just my opinion though so I may be wrong.

The Lees are not related at all.

John William Linge and Ernest William Lee are one and the same person.

His birth, although registered as 2 July 1876, was 2 June 1876. The baptism took place on 25 June 1876 and John William aka Ernest William is the son of John and Sarah Linge (nee Wallis).
