Hi, I am having extreme difficulty tracing my Irish LENNON family. My GG Grandfather was a Patrick LENNON born Armagh (c) 1834, he had two brothers James, John born (c) 1839 and a sister Hanah or Mary Ann, their parents were James LENNON 1816-1883 and Ann GALAGHER no dates, James LENNON father was I believe a Bernard LENNON born late 1700s?. The family is alleged to have left Ireland for the USA in 1847, had some trouble on the voyage, ended up in Peru on the Rimac River and tghen they turned up in Australia (c) 1856. Mother Ann LENNON nee GALAGHER is supposed to have died near Callao sometime between 1847-1856. I cannot get this family leaving Ireland or arriving in Australia around the quoted dates. Patrick LENNON marries in NSW in 1861, and apart from not being able to find a death certificate or burial site for him, I have a date from the Family Bible of 10/06/1875. I have no difficulty with the rest of the family in Australia, but the Irish side remains a puzzle. I have three hand-me-down oral histories of the Peru caper, but am skeptical. If Ann died in Peru she would most likely be buried at the British Colonial Cemetery near Lima, but I cannot find a burial list, I've been on to the UK Archives and they can't help. Although the British still maintain the Cemetery. So what do I need help with? 1. Leaving Northern Ireland, 2. a Burial in Peru, 3. further family in Ireland or elsewhere. So if there is anyone out there that can help me or point me in the right direction I would be eternally grateful. My cousin whom I met on this site and myself have spent years on this, I am beginning to dispair of ever tracking this family. |

Found this just by searching for Bernard Lennon. Is this something you have seen before or not? Is it your family? |

One other thing, have you tried Search Trees on this site? There are many Lennons born in Ireland in other members' trees. |

Hi, That's the family I'm after, the only one that I am not familiar with is the Patrick LENNON born 1813 and died Vegetable Creek 1882. Patrick the son of James and Ann is the one I'm after particularly for a burial place. Also how that branch of the family got to Australia. I have that Patrick's birth as 1834 but that can't be right if James and Ann married in 1837. I'll try the links you suggest. Thanks for your assistance. Cheers, Sue Simmonds. |

Hi, I checked the link you sent me, but I have previously looked at that one and it doesn't quite fit with the info I have, and I am no sure of their source. My sources are my cousin and I have cross referenced hers with the NSW BDM's, plus I have the family Bible. So I am not sure that the Hamilton site is completely accurate for my purposes. Again than you very much for your help. Cheers, Sue Simmonds. |
