Hi All,

I am desperate for help in finding Kathleen Dorothy Bowyer who I believe would have been born around 1925. She also had a daughter called Eileen who would have been born around 1945. They lived in Rowberry House, Donhead St Andrew in Shaftesbury Dorset in 1954 as Kathleen was a cook there.

i have tried all sorts of searches but do not seem to find anything. All help and tips gratefully received. :-D

Cheers

Thanks Robin,

I will have a go. Only problem is I think I need more information like their dates of birth etc about Kathleen or Eileen to enable me to search for the right ones. This is the problem I am having now and only hope that someone one here will be able to help me.

Cheers

Michael

There was a rumour at one stage that Kathleen was in the forces may be the WRAC and that she married a servicemen by the name of bowyer but we really don't know if that is right or not. It could just be her real maiden name.

Cheers

Michael

There is a Kate D Bowyer born 1921 and an Eileen born 1944
That is as far as I will go on an open forum.

Robin7, would you delete the information about the 1955 marriage, please? My mum married several years before that, and is still living, and I would not want her marriage details posted on the internet. (Also, for future ref, all that could be compressed into about 1/6 the space just by a few delete-key strokes.)

(tips for avoiding search limits at 192.com -- see my post here:
http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.page/board/genealogy_chat/thread/1268147)

This info can be sent to Michael by private message so he can consider it.

Michael, I'm not clear on what you're after. You want to locate daughter Eileen?

With the info that SatNav has given you, you can find the earlier birth at FreeBMD

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

and use the registration details to order the birth certificate

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

to get the full given names and exact date of birth. That can be used for searching death records at Ancestry, after 1969, by given names and date of birth, even without a surname. If a match is found, a marriage to that surname can be searched for (keeping in mind that some women's deaths were registered under the surname of an informal partner).

If you get the birth info from the certificate, just post here that you have it and request that someone in the thread send you a private message so you can give them the details and they can search the Ancestry index.

I'd recommend that you get the second birth certificate too. If you haven't been given the registration details for that birth privately, post here and someone will send them to you (FreeBMD is not that up to date on births).

Please post in the thread on General Chat

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.page/board/general_chat/thread/1270169

that all replies should now be posted in this thread.

Never mind about deleting the marriage; the parties are deceased. I'd say it's a very good chance this is the correct Kate/Kathleen.

Name: Kathleen Dorothy Frost
Birth Date: 22 Aug 1922
Date of Registration: Mar 2001
Age at Death: 78
Registration district: South Dorset
Inferred County: Dorset
Register number: A20D
District and Subdistrict: 4331A
Entry number: 170

-- the birthdate matches but is one year out from the possible birth, which is not unusual for people of advanced ages

Name: Leonard Lancelot Frost
Birth Date: 18 May 1918
Date of Registration: Jul 2001
Age at Death: 83
Registration district: Forest of Dean
Inferred County: Gloucestershire
Register number: 41
District and Subdistrict: 4821
Entry number: 299

There are births to that marriage. I will PM them to Michael.

And just to note -- it would not be at all unusual for someone born Kate to call herself Kathleen as an adult. (She might even have thought it was her name.)

My grandmother was Lily. We didn't know that until she was a senior cit, because my pompous grandfather insisted that Lily was too common and she must be Lilian after marriage. A couple of years ago here, I found someone's elusive grandmother, Kathleen Marion, getting born as plain Kate Mary. ;-)

Michael -- of the three names I sent you, the youngest appears to be a member of this website with themself in their tree.

If the trail followed here is the right one, that means that the discussion here is about the mother of another GR member.

Once it gets that close to home, I think you see the reason why others recommend care in what is posted, and why it would likely be best to delete these threads if they have run their course.

If you consider what has been posted here and want to pursue this line of thought, you will want to consider how to approach this family member of the people you are looking for, and probably discuss it with someone who can advise.
