I have been searching the Death of a George Buttress B abt 1839 [Cork Ireland] for quite some time.

His Parents were James Buttress [Kent] & Eliza [Cork Ireland]

George married in June. 1861 [Kent] to a Catherine Huckstepp.
Their last child B June 1872. Louisa.
In 1881C shows Catherine a [widower]
1871C shows George living with the Family aged 32yrs. [Mariner]

I do not have a Sub. for FMP but i did have a look for George in the..Register of Deaths at sea 1854-1890..
and shows a W. G. 'BUTTERS' 1871 possibilty!

George & Catherine had a son 'George William' in 1868.
George, may be a William George.
Their name 'Buttress' has be mis-spelled before.

Could someone please have a look for me!

Most Grateful!

Is it possible that George simply left the family, and that Catherine called herself a widow because it sounded better than "deserted"?

In other words, have you tried to find George in later censuses, OR his death much later?

Yes, that is a possiblity & i also thought perhaps as he was a mariner he may have sailed to America & started another life there sometime between 1868 - 1881.
I haven't seen him in Census outside of the 1871C.
