Hi,

I am VERY new to all this but am already addicted!

I have looked through different census and the FreeCen and Freebdm sites but can't go any further.

I have hit a brick wall as I have found the following, but can't find their parents or siblings:

John Fellows c1870 - c1946. Born in the west Midlands area.
Married Margaret Richards in 1898. Margaret Richards c1871, born in Glamorgan.

John was heir to the Fellows haulage company but ran away as a teen to escape his tyrant of a grandfather apparently!

and...

David John Harries, born 1882 in Carmarthen area. We have found him on the 1911 census. He is living with his wife Ruth (maiden name unknown) and three daughters in the Glamorgan area. We know that he had another family and are looking to go back as far as we can in the hope of finding his other children.

Looks like there are a few skeletons in my family closet and I can't wait to discover them. Any help you can offer is much appreciated.

Thanks,

Nia

Thanks Jonesey!

Gadd is definitely a name that has cropped up in the past but we haven't known who it belongs to until now.

I'm going to ask the rest of the family about the Harries' as I have just been told that it could be David JAMES Harries - not David JOHN Harries!
Although, the details above do seem to fit what I've been told about a big family.

Thanks again - this is a great help!

Choccy - Herbert Fellows is my great grandfather.

My grandad is getting on a bit and has been very upset lately as he couldn't remember the name of the youngest daughter. I can now tell him that it was Doris! Thank you!

Yes Lindsey, this is correct. He was a self employed rag merchant. Apparently he was a bit of a Delboy!

Thanks for all the replies. I've just updated the tree and it's coming along nicely now.

I can now confirm that it is definitely David James Harries and his father that we are looking for!

Just a little more help if possible please...

I have found two John Fellows in Walsall the 1871 census. As I know nothing about his family, I am not able to work out which one is my relative.

Does anyone have any tips for me please?

Thanks

You could check his father's name and occupation from his marriage certificate.

Is this the correct marriage ( spellings vary)
