Records we have show he was born in Stanton Herts England abt 1822. We know he married Hannah Holmes in Christchurch New Zealand in Oct 1874, but cannot find anything abt him before that. Can anyone help please. |

Have just gone back over notes etc. Norman Cockburns tree includes the Thomas from Braughing, and he claims he has traced him in England till 1891. If he is right, then it is not the Thomas we are looking for. |

Have checked the children shown for the Braughing Thomas, and it does not look likely they have come to NZ. |

Thanks Pat. Yes that is Thomas and his daughter who died as a baby. Its trying to find him and his family before he came to NZ thar is our problem. It seems its one of those mysteries we will just have to keep looking to solve. |

Since the above entries, we have been checking a Thomas Aldridge who landed in NZ on the Clontarf in March 1860, with his wife Ann, but no children. His age is given as 30 (born abt 1830 not 1822) and he was from Herts. He was a horsekeeper, which is consistant with other work our Thomas did in NZ. There are Thomas's in the 1841 and 1851 which could be him, but the info doesnt lead anywhere. Has anyone got any thoughts. |
