Joseph Reginald Pratt 1904

Does anyone have any information about Joseph Reginald Pratt, born 1904, Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire? His mother was Ethel Pratt, born c1887, father unknown.
His mother married a Leopold Wadsworth (1911 census) and he appears on the 1911 census, as Joseph Reginald Bowes, living with a Joseph Bowes, widower. a boot and shoe repairer in Middlesbrough.
He married Edith Hoggart in 1934 and reverted to the name of Pratt. They had four children. At some point they either seperated or divorced.
He was in the army during WW2, I think in the Pioneer Corps. He spent a lot of time in London and Jersey and worked from time to time in the Rubens Hotel, near Buckingham Palace. He was quite a skilled painter and exhibited his works in Middlesbrough Art Gallery in the 1940's.
He committed suicide on the 23rd April 1956, in Lambeth, London.
I am looking for any information to find out more about him.

Could a possible scenario be that Joseph Bowes married Mary J Plews in june 1894. In c. 1903 he has an affair with Ethel Pratt with the child being the result. Then in Dec qtr 1910 his wife Mary Jane Bowes dies aged 38 in Middlesborough and Joseph decides he wants his son (or his step father wants him out). So Joseph jnr is entered on the 1911 as son of Joseph Bowes.
