Hi Cherilyn,
Thank you so much. Sorry for the delay had to take grandson to Basketball Match. That is a really great help. We agree she must have returned after his death for support. She eventually remarried a man called Wilkinson and Sarah married Mr. Wilkinson's son. Sarah was widowed twice and eventually married my Great Grandfather! Co-incidetally we now live in New Zealand and holiday near Moreton Bay ! Once again very many thanks,
Roger

I wonder...

The Sydney Morning Herald, Monday 9 February 1857
JOHN PICKETT, who came out in 1854, his sister Mrs. SIBBLE, now Mrs. DUKE, just arrived in Sydney, and would be glad to hear from him. Address to Mrs. DUKE, Blue Bell Hotel, Sussex-street.

Ah yes that fits with these births in Qld and then NSW, note birthplace of 2nd child:

4984/1856 PICKETT THOMAS JOHN ELIZA IPSWICH Buy Now
8296/1858 PICKETT (FEMALE) JOHN ELIZA LIVERPOOL Buy Now

It is not surprising she returned to family support after John's death. Sydney would not have been an easy place for a single mother in those times, to support her family.

Unfotunately there are no outbound shipping records for NSW.

You say you have details of the boat and journey - which state did they arrive in?

If it was NSW, this may be John's death:

3988/1858 PICKETT JOHN AGE 35 YEARS DIED LIVERPOOL LIVERPOOL

Ah I see they arrived in Moreton Bay (Qld)

I do not have any details that you seek but one explanation as to why they initially went to Australia may be that the move was prompted by the gold rush period which started in 1851,

In the next 10 years the population of Victoria expanded fourfold.

We know that Eliza PICKETT and her children, including Sarah Caroline Pickett left London for Australia in 1855 with husband John (Boat and journey details already known to us).
In 1861 census Eliza is shown living back in London as a widow with her children.
Does anybody please have access to any records which show details of the voyage back Australia to England or equally any knowledge of why the family went and returned. Thank you. :-)
