Good afternoon, I am trying to locate my ancestors by the name of Carney in the Salford/Manchester area from the turn of the century. Thomas Carney married Florence Wallace in Salford on April 24th 1907. they lived at 15 boond st, Thomas was a beer retailer employed at the Flying dutchman in 1905/6 until the police closed it due to his customer base ( rogues apparently ) From his marriage certificate, I have hime down as being born in or around 1880, his Fathers name is believed to be Michael and they are rumoured to have hailed from Roscommon ( unsure whether town or county ) On a visit to the family history centre in Salford, I could find no trace of him in their archives, apart from a mention of Thomas Carney, Beer retailer in Cheetham Hill in Manchester in 1902 in a trade directory, no other information has been found to take me any further back from this point. Any help anyone could offer in moving on from here would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance. Gavin

Thank you, cross lane and greengate were only a mile or two away from each other and the barman link ties in Nicely, as do the birth year, the docks were only about half mile from cross lane so this could be how he made is way to Salford and why he is being so hard to trace.

Hello again, would anyone know If I could get hold of passenger lists for salford docks ?? if not, are there any other thomas carneys that I have not picked up on ??? Thanks in advance
